On 4 May 2020, EU with global partners started a pledging project called the Coronavirus Global Response. The aim of the project is to raise at least 7,5 billion EUR for fighting the coronavirus. On 19.03.2020, the European Commission adopted a Temporary Framework for State aid measures (https://ec.europa.eu/competition/state_aid/what_is_new/sa_covid19_temporary-framework.pdf) to allow Member States more flexibility in using State aid to support the coronary virus-stricken economy. The problem that has arisen in practice, where Estonian companies are unable to open a bank account, will receive a solution no later than the 1st of January 2019, when Estonian companies will have the option to open an account in a foreign credit or payment institution. Read more
According to the current law, it is not allowed to manage Estonian companies from abroad. However, such a possibility is provided for starting next year, but in that case a contact person located in Estonia has to be appointed to receive documents. Read more
Amending the renewable energy support scheme has caused much ruckus and opinion differences in Estonia. Government’s plans to retroactively amend the support scheme while not respecting previous agreements would command attention in any case. While the market opening will cause most of the electricity contracts of the consumers to legally terminate transition mechanisms are in place to ensure that households and smaller business consumers will not be left without electricity.
