Deivis Valiulis comments on the new Municipal Infrastructure Development Law, which enters into force on 1 January in Lithuania

On January 1, a new Law on Municipal Infrastructure Development will enter into force in Lithuania. Deivis Valiulis, our firm’s Partner, comments to Delfi.lt that the municipal councils have not yet approved which specific infrastructure development they will consider a priority.

This means that throughout the period, until the municipalities adjust their general plans, all real estate developers will have to pay newly established, projected, significantly higher development fees and will not be able to claim compensation for infrastructure costs, at least in the coming year. Under the new law, municipalities are obliged to plan their priority and non-priority infrastructure plans by 2023. Until then, the entire territory of the municipality will be considered non-priority.
