In November, EstBAN held its final start-up presentation evening of the season at Bolt’s office. During the event, TRINITI attorney-at-law Maarja Lehemets provided an overview of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and its implications for start-ups. She emphasised that the AI Regulation concerns not only technology giants, but also affects early-stage start-ups that develop or use artificial intelligence solutions.
She explained when a start-up is considered an AI system provider under the AI Act and when it is considered a commercial user or deployer of AI solutions, and how this affects the company’s obligations. She also discussed the risk-based approach, explaining which solutions are prohibited, when a system is considered high-risk and how to fulfil transparency obligations.
She encouraged start-ups to start mapping their AI systems, assessing their risk level and considering compliance documentation and data protection. According to her, good compliance with regulations is becoming an increasingly important competitive advantage, inspiring confidence in investors and partners.
If you have any questions about the AI Regulation or other technology law issues, the TRINITI team can help you navigate the rapidly evolving legal framework and find the right solutions for your business.
